Because I’ve been present. Truly present, not just in a place, but within my own body - something I’ll own up to being notoriously bad at. The presence did something unexpected: it gave answers to things I’ve long thought on and rarely reached an answer for, as though thinking about it before had only served to keep clarity at bay.

When did you last feel truly present? How do you stay there?

Writing allows me to tune in and far from filling my bank account, it makes space - for me.

I also know from people who have reached out that it makes space for them too, which is a luxury in a profession predicated upon what we do for others, and how productive we are within metrics.

Introverted by nature, extroverted by profession - the emotional juggling act of social workers sparkling on empty.

Did anyone else take an ‘Adult Job’ and find themselves growing up in entirely different ways than anticipated?
